SWP calculator: how long will your corpus last?

A systematic withdrawal plan (SWP) takes a fixed amount out of your investments each month. This calculator shows whether your corpus lasts and what is left.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the corpus you start with.
  2. Enter the amount you will withdraw each month.
  3. Enter the expected yearly return and the number of years.
  4. Read the balance at the end, or the time the corpus lasts if it runs out sooner.

Example 2

A higher withdrawal of ₹45,000 a month.

You enter

Starting corpus₹50,00,000
Monthly withdrawal₹45,000
Expected return (per year)8%
Years20

You get

Corpus lasts16 years 9 months
Total withdrawn₹90,15,431

How it works

If withdrawals are larger than what the corpus earns, the balance falls and the corpus may run out. If they are smaller, the balance can even grow.

Costs rise with inflation but a fixed withdrawal does not, so a plan that works on paper may feel tighter each year. Try a lower withdrawal to see the safety margin.

Formula

Each month: balance = (balance - withdrawal) x (1 + yearly return / 12 / 100).

Common questions

What withdrawal rate is safe?

There is no single safe rate; it depends on return, inflation and how long you need it. Test several.

Does it include tax?

No.

Can I raise the withdrawal each year?

This tool keeps it fixed.
